What could be a better way to launch a new year at a university named for a great American statesman than with a welcome called ‘The Preamble’?

That’s what the organizers in University Life’s Office of Student Involvement call the dozens of activities they have created for students as the new academic year revs up. From freshman move-in day on Thursday, Aug. 25 (be sure to say hello to President Alan Merten), to a barbeque in Presidents Park on Monday, Sept. 5, the welcoming events will just keep on coming.

For most of the activities, you just show up, but you’ll need to assemble your team for “The Hunt,” an exciting puzzle adventure (Sept. 3) that offers lots of fun and great prizes. And be sure to get your Mason gear ready for the College Colors Day photo op (Sept. 2) and your dancing shoes shined for the Infinity Music Festival. For first-year students, the Convocation brings the entire class together on Aug. 26 to continue their initiation as Patriots. It’s all happening right here at Mason.

Check out the Preamble website for all the action.

Students will gather once again for IVth (Fourth) Night, a spirited celebration honoring the university’s namesake, George Mason IV. Bring your Mason spirit: Fight song T-shirts will be on hand. Photo by Evan Cantwell
