Support Programs for Recently Displaced Workers

In response to the recent displacement of more than 120,000 workers, including federal employees and contractors, George Mason University has expanded programs to provide immediate, easily accessible supports to displaced workers seeking new career opportunities, pursuing further education, or accessing resources to sustain their personal and professional well-being.

Career Supports

Access to Online Micro-credentialing Coursework

Through the newly launched Mason Career Academy, individuals may gain access to 90+ online training courses and industry-recognized technical certifications in high-demand fields. These flexible, self-paced offerings are designed to support professional upskilling and career transitions. A one-time fee of around $20 provides access to the coursework for a full year.

Mason Enterprise offers coaching for individuals interested in starting small or home-based businesses, with guidance tailored to consulting, federal contracting, and other emerging needs.

Peer Career Exploration Webinars

Hosted by the George Mason University Alumni Association, “Patriots Helping Patriots: Ask Me Anything” live sessions connect individuals with alumni leaders who provide career insights, industry orientation, and professional guidance across a range of fields.

Aid Packages for Dependents

For dependents considering undergraduate admission, George Mason will re-evaluate financial aid packages to help support continued access to college. For FAFSA reconsideration, visit Mason Student Services Center, under “MSSC SERVICE OPTIONS,” click on “VIRTUAL SERVICES” and follow listed steps.

Community Supports

Tickets to Cultural Events

George Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts is offering free tickets to select cultural performances, including music, theater, and dance events. 

  • Tickets for impacted individuals may be reserved by phone or in person at the venue Ticket Offices. Individuals will be asked to confirm government agency and date of separation. The schedule of events is available online.
  • Free content is also available to watch on the digital venue Mason Arts Amplified.

Admission to Sporting Events

George Mason Athletics will offer up to four complimentary tickets to select intercollegiate athletic events during the 2025-2026 season. Eligible events include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s volleyball, and men’s baseball.

  • Individuals may submit their ticket request (Name, Number of Tickets, and Cell Phone Number) via email to icatix@gmu.edu, using "Federal Displaced Workers Offer" as the subject line. The schedule is available online.
